What is a cottage food law?
State laws that let you sell certain homemade foods without a commercial kitchen. Most states have one, with varying limits on what you can sell and how much you can earn.
Do I need a license to sell food from home?
Depends on your state. Some require a permit or registration, others just need you to follow labeling rules. Check your state above.
Can I sell cottage food online?
Growing number of states allow online sales, but many still require in-person or direct sales only. Your state’s law will specify.
What foods can I sell from home?
Most states allow non-potentially-hazardous foods: baked goods, jams, honey, candy, dried herbs. Meat, dairy, and canned goods are usually restricted.
Is there a revenue limit?
Most states cap annual revenue between $25,000 and $75,000. A few states have no cap. Florida is the most generous at $250,000.
