Everything you need to know about selling homemade food from your kitchen in Michigan.
Michigan sellers can now use DoorDash and other third-party delivery apps to sell homemade cookies and cakes — one of the only states that explicitly allows gig-economy food delivery for cottage food.

Annual revenue cap
$50,000/year (or $75,000/year if all items priced $250+)
HB 4122 (signed March 2026) doubled the cap from $25K to $50K and legalized online sales, shipping, and third-party delivery. Online sales require two-way communication (video call or virtual meeting) with the customer before the first purchase. Voluntary registration ($50 one-time) lets sellers use a registration number instead of home address on labels. Starting October 2026, caps adjust for inflation via Detroit CPI.
